Did you notice how often the Prophet was quoted from Conference last week? It seemed that many speakers quoted the prophet's recent instruction. To be sure, I did a little digging and came up with some interested numbers.

There were 52 quotes attributed to President Nelson during the October 2021 conference by 25 different speakers (of the 36 talks not given by the prophet)

Elder Anderson quoted him most frequently in his talk Sunday Afternoon "The Name of the Church Is Not Negotiable" by referencing the prophet in Church News and Conference reports 9 times.

41 of the quotes are from since he became the prophet.

3 of the quotes were direct conversations of General Authorities with the Prophet.

Most recent quotes were from just hours prior. Saturday evening Elder Eyring quoted the prophet's opening remarks. And Sunday afternoon, Elder Anderson quoted President Nelson's Temple Foundation talk from the previous session.

The oldest quote was from Elder Nelson's April 1989 talk "The Canker of Contention" by Elder Renlund in his Sunday Morning talk "The Peace of Christ Abolishes Enmity"

Most notable were the 2 single talks that were quoted the most. They were both quoted most often and by most number of General Authorities. They were each quoted 6 times and they were each quoted by 5 different speakers. "Joy and Spiritual Survival" given from October 2016 by President Nelson (then President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles). Speakers quoting our prophet were emphasizing that we can “feel enduring peace and joy, even during turbulent times,” because “… The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives. When the focus of our lives is on … Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives.”

The other talk from President Nelson that was quoted 6 times was "Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains" from the April 2021 General Conference Sunday Morning Session. Speakers quoting this talk were reminding us of the importance of "allowing god to prevail in our lives" and that "Increasing your faith and trust in Him takes effort.”

What the prophets and apostles of our church are emphasizing is important to our spiritual growth and protection. I know that as we take time to nurture our spirits we can be happy despite our circumstances, like the calm in a storm. I pray these data collected can be meaningful and helpful to you as well. I have listed below all the quotes I collected from the October 2021 General Conference. Feel free to comment about your thoughts and feelings in regards to those who quoted our prophet. Your thoughtful comments can help uplift us all as we are Reaching For Christ.

Quotes are listed in chronological order, as they were given in the October 2021 General Conference. This only includes direct quotes and not other citations that credit President Nelson.

Saturday Morning

Elder Holland:

"It also reminds us to remain faithful each day to covenants made and to walk on the covenant path each day in a higher and holier way."

Sister Cordon:

He asked a question that still echoes in my heart, “Bonnie, what’s the most important thing the [youth] need to know?”

I pondered for a moment and said, “They need to know who they are.”

“YES!” he exclaimed, “and they need to know their purpose.”

“Anytime we do anything that helps anyone … make and keep their covenants with God, we are helping to gather Israel.”

“The Lord needs you to change the world. As you accept and follow His will for you, you will find yourself accomplishing the impossible!”

Russell M. Nelson, Accomplishing the Impossible: What God Does, What We Can Do (2015), 147.

Elder Christofferson:

“It is precisely because we do care deeply about all of God’s children that we proclaim His truth.”

“God’s laws are motivated entirely by His infinite love for us and His desire for us to become all we can become.”

Elder Giuffra:

“Everything good in life—every potential blessing of eternal significance—begins with faith. Allowing God to prevail in our lives begins with faith that He is willing to guide us. True repentance begins with faith that Jesus Christ has the power to cleanse, heal, and strengthen us.”

President Oaks:

“We cannot wish our way into the presence of God. We are to obey the laws upon which [that blessing is] predicated.”

Saturday Afternoon

Elder Schmeil:

“Elder Schmeil, you are called for what you can become.”

Direct Conversation

“To do anything well requires effort. Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is no exception.”

Sister Porter:

“The more committed we become to patterning our lives after His, the purer and more divine our love becomes.”

Elder Rasband:

“Take your questions to the Lord and to other faithful sources. Study with the desire to believe rather than with the hope that you can find a flaw in the fabric of a prophet’s life or a discrepancy in the scriptures. Stop increasing your doubts by rehearsing them with … doubters. Allow the Lord to lead you on your journey of spiritual discovery.”

“I know Them, love Them, and pledge to serve Them—and you—with every remaining breath of my life.”

“When we love God with all our hearts, He turns our hearts to the well-being of others.”

President Nelson describes the restored gospel as “a message of joy!”

“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

Elder Golden:

“The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of repentance. Because of the Savior’s Atonement, His gospel provides an invitation to keep changing, growing, and becoming more pure. It is a gospel of hope, of healing, and of progress. Thus, the gospel is a message of joy! Our spirits rejoice with every small step forward we take.”

Elder Villanueva:

“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives. When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation, … we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives.”

President Nelson taught us that one meaning of the word Israel is “let God prevail.”

“Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? Are you willing to let God be the most important influence in your life? Will you allow His words, His commandments, and His covenants to influence what you do each day? Will you allow His voice to take priority over any other? Are you willing to let whatever He needs you to do take precedence over every other ambition? Are you willing to have your will swallowed up in His?”

Saturday Evening Session

Sister Eubank:

“When you meet with people on your assignments, thank them for their fasting, their offerings, and their ministering in the name of the Lord.”

Direct Conversation

Elder Valenzuela:

“To do anything well requires effort. Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is no exception. Increasing your faith and trust in Him takes effort.”

“If we ‘press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, … [we] shall have eternal life’ [2 Nephi 31:20].

“To feast means more than to taste. To feast means to savor. We savor the scriptures by studying them in a spirit of delightful discovery and faithful obedience. When we feast upon the words of Christ, they are embedded ‘in fleshy tables of the heart’ [2 Corinthians 3:3]. They become an integral part of our nature”

Brother Wilcox:

“Repentance … is a process.”

Elder Alfred Kyungu:

“Through His infinite Atonement, you can forgive those who have hurt you and who may never accept responsibility for their cruelty to you.

“It is usually easy to forgive one who sincerely and humbly seeks your forgiveness. But the Savior will grant you the ability to forgive anyone who has mistreated you in any way”

Elder Nash:

He and his fellow missionaries around the world are the Lord’s battalion—to quote our prophet.

He is correct: the gathering of Israel—the greatest cause on this earth—is our covenant responsibility.

Elder Eyring:

President Russell M. Nelson said that “pure revelation for the questions in your heart will make this conference rewarding and unforgettable. If you have not yet sought for the ministering of the Holy Ghost to help you hear what the Lord would have you hear during these two days, I invite you to do so now.”

Sunday Morning

Sister Johnson

President Nelson declared that we “receive more faith by doing something that requires more faith.”

Elder Renlund

Our lives have been blessed by ministering in a “higher and holier way,”2 the Come, Follow Me curriculum, and home-centered, Church-supported gospel learning.

I testify that as we “shun contention” and become “like-minded with the Lord in love and united with Him in faith,” His peace will be ours.

Elder Cook

President Russell M. Nelson has taught us—and during this pandemic we have learned—that the home-centered, Church-supported religious observance can “unleash the power of families … to transform [our] home[s] into a sanctuary of faith.”

He has taught us that we can “feel enduring peace and joy, even during turbulent times,” as we strive to become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ.

He has counseled us to “repent daily” to receive the Lord’s “cleansing, healing, and strengthening power.”

Sunday Afternoon

Elder Gong:

President Russell M. Nelson assures, “You do not have to wonder whom you can safely trust.”

Elder Perkins:

These suffering Saints exemplify what President Russell M. Nelson has taught:

“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.

“When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation … and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives.”

Elder Dunn:

As President Russell M. Nelson has taught: “Nothing is more liberating, more ennobling, or more crucial to our individual progression than is a regular, daily focus on repentance. Repentance is not an event; it is a process. It is the key to happiness and peace of mind. When coupled with faith, repentance opens our access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”

Elder Douglas:

President Russell M. Nelson explained:

“Saints can be happy under every circumstance. We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year!

“… The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.

“When the focus of our lives is on … Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives.”

President Nelson has shared, “They’re called commandments, but they are just as true as the law of lift, the law of gravity, [and] the law that governs the heartbeat.”

President Nelson continued, “It becomes a rather simple formula: If you want to be happy, keep the commandments.”

Russell M. Nelson, in “Eternal Laws: From Scrabble to the Commandments” (video), Church News, Aug. 31, 2019, thechurchnews.com

President Nelson has taught:

“Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of all belief and the conduit of divine power. …

“The Lord does not require perfect faith for us to have access to His perfect power. But He does ask us to believe.”

Since April general conference, my family and I have been seeking to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement to help us “turn [our] challenges into unparalleled growth and opportunity.”

President Nelson shared, “Only your unbelief will keep God from blessing you with miracles to move the mountains in your life.”

Our belief and obedience link us to power beyond our own to overcome “[whatever] is happening—or not happening—in our lives.”

Elder Revillo

As President Russell M. Nelson teaches, it is “doing and being a little better each day”

Elder Anderson

In a press conference on August 16, 2018, President Russell M. Nelson said: “The Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He has revealed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.1 We have work before us to bring ourselves in harmony with His will.”

President Nelson answered questions from reporters. He acknowledged that it was “going to be a challenge to [reestablish the name of the Church and] undo [a] tradition of more than a hundred years.” But, he added, “the name of the Church is not negotiable.”

“The Lord impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He decreed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. … It was the Savior Himself who said, ‘For thus shall my church be called.’” Then President Nelson repeated, “The name of the Church is not negotiable.”

This morning President Nelson said, “The Restoration is a process, not an event.”

In the conference three years ago, President Nelson promised us “that our rigorous attention to use the correct name of the Savior’s Church … [would bring us] increased faith and access to greater spiritual power.”

Remember President Nelson’s words? “I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, the likes of which we have never seen.”

“At the center of the symbol is a representation of Thorvaldsen’s marble statue the Christus. It portrays the resurrected, living Lord reaching out to embrace all who will come unto Him.

“Symbolically, Jesus Christ is standing under an arch [reminding] us of the resurrected Savior emerging from the tomb.”

We realized that adding six words to our name would not be ideal for the media, but, as President Nelson foretold, “responsible media will be sympathetic in responding to our request.”

“The name of the Church is not negotiable.”

(again repeated from same quote earlier)
